Our symbol represents all areas of our art; the physical, spiritual, psychological and emotional as well as our theory of martial engagements. The Ying-Yang symbol represents the dichotomy or duality of man. Man possesses the potential for good as well as evil. Sometimes there is a very thin line that divides those parts. It is because of this, the Kyu Shin Ryu practitioner strives to always allow the good in him or her to shine through, even in times of difficult circumstances. It is by allowing this good to shine through us that we bring harmony and balance into ourselves, the immediate environment and the world that we live in. We must strive to contaminate the world with goodness that lives inside of us. We strive to respect and honor those around us, and respect life.

The Ying-Yang symbol also represents the balance between hard and soft in the theory of technique application in our art. The art of Kyu Shin Ryu begins by training students in the striking arts which by nature and tradition are seen more in karate styles such as Tae Kwon Do, Kyusho Jitsu and Goju Ryu karate. The student is gradually introduced into the arts of Judo, Jujitsu and Aikido as their training continues. By the time the student reaches intermediate to upper grade Mudansha level they should be able to transition between hard and soft techniques instinctively (this is called Mushin), given on what the situation may call for. The intensity of the technique will be contingent on the level of threat that is present.

Kyu Shin Ryu fighting theories are based on the premise of utilizing circles and angles to execute striking techniques, blocking techniques throwing techniques, etc.. The circle in the Ying-Yang symbol represents the circular theory that is the core of application to aikido throws, and joint manipulation techniques. This stands true also for the application of many Jujitsu techniques which use circular theory for application of techniques. The triangle represents the strength that provides us with structure and integrity. Triangles have historically represented structures of strength and power, while at the same time possessing aesthetic beauty. Triangles possess strong structural integrity with solid bases. Practitioners of Kyu Shin Ryu use the premise of utilizing critical angles of entry ( based on the angles of the triangle) when applying striking, blocking and many kicking tecniques. We believe strongly in the concept of deflection and redirection to utilize the opponents strength against them. We also use these angles as entry points for many of the judo and Jujitsu throws as well as pressure point strikes and applications that we utilize in the system.
